Rhode Island Latino Arts (RILA) and Trinity Repertory company are co-hosting a reading of Just Like Us, a play by Karen Zacarías based on the real story of DREAMers that shows the human cost of ending DACA. This reading is inspired by Zacarías’ movement to give free production rights to institutions interested in producing the play to raise awareness of what cancelling DACA will mean for thousands of students.
The performance is FREE and open the public at the Lederer Theater Center, 201 Washington St., Providence, RI 02903.
Following the reading we’ll be hearing from DREAMers and immigration attorneys helping us get organized.
October 5, 2017 was the deadline for DACA renewals, and all RI applications were renewed, through a large donation provided by a coalition of groups, managed by Dorcas International Institute. The coalition has decided that they no longer need to raise money for DACA renewal, and recommends that the current need for these young people lies in offering scholarships to stay in school. On October 16, all donations will be put towards the CASO scholarship fund for undocumented people to receive scholarships to college.
We are still looking for readers–if you’d like to lend your voice to reading the play you can email Rebecca Noon at rnoon@trinityrep.com.
