In his new world premiere Into the Breeches!, playwright George Brant presents a community of women at home in Providence during World War II, bereft of their men and thus forced to reimagine their roles, both on and off the stage of their beloved community theater, where Shakespeare’s Henry V is set for production. While brilliantly comedic, the play raises profound, timely questions: Does gender influence our experiences? Does it determine our own sense of possibility? Does it influence the way others see and treat us? Are we informed by it? Do we conform to it? How does it intersect with race? With age? With where we come from? And how is it that we so often turn to Shakespeare to help us tease out answers to such vexing questions of identity?

Join us for a conversation with women of different ages sharing their experiences of leadership, learning, encountering boundaries and testing them, and considering how Shakespeare’s mysterious, liberating, exploratory perspective can help us ask new questions, and gain new understanding, of ourselves and one another.
