  • Everyone’s favorite curmudgeon, Ebenezer Scrooge, is back! The humbug’s wrenching, covetous, and cares more for money than all else. When the clock strikes midnight one fateful Christmas Eve, the ghost of Scrooge’s old pal Marley pays a much overdue visit. Through a supernatural journey, Scrooge must confront the past, acknowledge the present, and define the future for the good of the community – and Scrooge’s very soul.     • Children will need to be ages 8 – 12 for the full run of the show (through December 29, 2024) 

      Trinity Rep’s Respiratory Virus Policy for Employment

      • Trinity Repertory Company bases decisions regarding public health on the best available science and guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH). At this time, Trinity Repertory Company no longer requires proof of vaccination as a condition for employment 

      Trinity Rep’s Health/Illness Audition Advisory

      • To maintain the health of the community, we strongly encourage everyone in the room to be up to date with all vaccinations for common respiratory viral illnesses, including COVID-19, flu, and RSV. We ask anyone who has symptoms of illness and/or has tested positive for COVID-19 to not attend auditions

        Preparation

        • Upon arriving at Cardi’s, you will check in for an audition time and be asked to complete the following digital audition form. We encourage you to complete the form in advance at https://forms.office.com/r/JSc55NvUVA
        • On the audition form, we will ask for your child’s acting, vocal, dance, and instrument abilities as well as if they can jump rope. We will also ask for any other relevant theater experience/skills in addition to any known scheduling conflicts your child has at this time
        • Children should prepare to read out loud the three short scenes attached.  Auditionees do not need to memorize scenes. Children should also prepare to sing a verse of their favorite Christmas/holiday carol. Feel free to print out lyrics!
        • At auditions, we aren’t looking for children to act like the descriptions of the characters below, but instead, to just be themselves

        Day-of information

        • From 9:00 am – 1:00 pm, we will have children audition in groups of four to six and ask them to read one or more scenes together. We will then ask the children to sing. To audition between 9:00 am – 1:00pm, we kindly ask that you arrive no earlier than 8:45 am and no later than 12:00 pm
        • We are happy to make any necessary accommodations. Examples of accommodations include but are not limited to eliminating waiting times, providing a quiet space, or sharing fidget toys. Our goal is to have our auditions be fun for all and not stressful!  
        • Any possible callbacks will take place the week of August 26 after school at Trinity Rep, located at 201 Washington St., Providence, RI, 02903 

          Roles and character information

          Children’s parts are listed by their featured role and characteristics.

          • Turkey Kid; A confident kid who knows a great deal about the neighborhood. Will play additional ensemble roles
          • Fan: Scrooge’s older sister – a vibrant and loving presence. Will play additional ensemble roles
          • Martha Cratchit: The eldest of the Cratchit children – responsible and nurturing.  Will play additional ensemble roles
          • Belinda Cratchit: The prankster of the Cratchit family with a sparky personality. Will play additional ensemble roles
          • Peter Cratchit: A kind, quieter kid, just now coming into his own.  Will play additional ensemble roles
          • Tiny Tim: A child with consumption (tuberculosis) who has a great sense of humor and a bright presence. Will play additional ensemble roles

          Rehearsal and Performance Schedule

          A Christmas Carol is a serious and big time commitment!

          • Rehearsals will take place in the Providence area. Performances will take place at Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence, RI.
          • Two children will be cast in each role and will rehearse and perform on an alternating basis
          • By the start of regular rehearsals, stage management will provide parents with a child rehearsal schedule. Closer to tech rehearsal, stage management will provide a child performance schedule.
          • We have twenty-one (21) scheduled performances. Therefore, we will not accept conflicts during the weeks of tech and previews. Stage management will attempt to accommodate conflicts during rehearsals and performances, but cannot guarantee that requests will be accepted 
          • Between October 15 and November 16, rehearsals for youth performers will take place Wednesday – Friday between 3:30 pm – 7:00 pm and Saturday anytime between 10:00 am – 7:00 pm. Sundays and Mondays are production days off, except for when we get into tech and previews/performances
          • During tech rehearsal from November 20 – 22, youth performers are called from 4:30 pm – 9:00 pm or 10:00 pm, depending on the day 
          • Preview performances will take place November 23 and 24 at 6:00 and November 26 and 27at 7:30 pm. Tech rehearsal for youth performers will take place beforehand 
          • Press will be invited to the performance on November 29 at 7:30 pm, with rehearsal for youth performers scheduled during the day 
          • The first four performances are on November 30 and December 1 at 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm 
          • Our Opening Celebration for family and friends will take place on December 2 at 7:30 pm 
          • On December 3 and 4, we will have school group performances at 10:30 am and evening performances at 7:30 pm 
          • From December 5-15 we’re on holiday hiatus and return for rehearsals December 17 – 22 
          • Performances resume on December 26 at 7:30 pm and continue December 27 and 28 at 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm 
          • Our final performance date is December 29 with performances at 12:00 pm and 6:00 pm 
          • If an adult understudy needs to go on, stage management will schedule a rehearsal for the actor with full tech and the production cast during the day. For these rehearsals, we will ask for one child from each role to be present for staging and blocking purposes as they are available 
          • The production child coordinator(s) will be the point of contact for parents and will supervise, support, and care for the youth performers while they are on site. When able, the child coordinator will record music and choreography for the youth cast and parents for rehearsal purposes only 

            Pay

            • Each child actor will receive one (1) $500.00 stipend for their time and paid in two installments of $250.00, first at opening and second at closing
