Melaine Ferdinand-King is a Providence, RI-based, multi-form creative practitioner. She is the current Creative Director of The Vanta Guild and the project manager for “The Trinity Rep Photo Project”. Melaine holds a B.A. in Sociology from Spelman College, and is a Ph.D. candidate in Africana Studies at Brown University. Drawing from her heritage, Melaine’s practice is informed by African-American/Negro tradition and theory, with a special focus on Black aesthetics and visual culture. Her curatorial projects emphasize the importance of community and critique in our daily lives. She is also a poet who enjoys jazz and soul music, anime, and stand-up comedy.
